button synopsis

New York Times bestselling author J. Kenner kicks off a smoking hot, emotionally compelling new trilogy that returns to the world of her beloved Stark novels: Release Me, Claim Me, and Complete Me. Say My Namefeatures Jackson Steele, a strong-willed man who goes after what he wants, and Sylvia Brooks, a disciplined woman who’s hard to get—and exactly who Jackson needs.

I never let anyone get too close—but he’s the only man who’s ever made me feel alive. Meeting Jackson Steele was a shock to my senses. Confident and commanding, he could take charge of any room . . . or any woman. And Jackson wanted me. The mere sight of him took my breath away, and his touch made me break all my rules. Our bond was immediate, our passion untamed. I wanted to surrender completely to his kiss, but I couldn’t risk his knowing the truth about my past. Yet Jackson carried secrets too, and in our desire we found our escape, pushing our boundaries as far as they could go. Learning to trust is never easy. In my mind, I knew I should run. But in my heart, I never felt a fire this strong—and it could either save me or scorch me forever. Say My Name is intended for mature audiences

Disclaimer – I have received a copy of this book from Once Upon An Alpha in exchange for a fair and honest review.

***This book talks about rape and the story Sylvia has to tell of her experience. Please be forewarned before reading this book if this topic is a trigger for you.***

Sylvia has a permanent reminder of how men can ruin her. His name is Bob.  He has haunted her in her dreams and in her life every day since she turned 14.  Jackson had made a life and name for himself out of incredible hard work and strength.  There is only one thing in his life that had the ability and power to break him. Jackson will do anything Sylvia asks him to do, no matter what.  How is he to respond when she asks him to do the one thing he does not want to do? He was left broken and empty the day she walked out. When something is meant to be it will be.  What does that mean for Sylvia and Jackson? When Sylvia needs Jackson will he break down his barriers and do whatever she asks? Can he be that vulnerable again?

Jackson and Sylvia ripped my heart out and tore it into shreds.  They both have caused each other grief, neither causing more than the other.  Their relationship was written in such a way that it seemed incredible natural with the way they talked, fought, made love.  There were some tense moments between the two characters and that tension leapt out of the pages and grasped onto me while I was reading.  It was frustrating at times to read the story and not want to reach in the book and give the character a good stern talking to. The author did a great job playing with the readers emotions in such a way that is keeps you turning the page, reading word by word, desperately wanting to know more. There is still a feeling of mystery where Jackson is concerned but I couldn’t help but absolutely love the guy.  He is absolutely Sylvia’s knight in shining armor in this book so far and I couldn’t be happier to read it!

This book has caught me, hook line and sinker. I must read the next book: “On My Knees”!

Synopsis:

CAMERON
Life’s the shit!
Chicks squeal over how wild and yummy I am, play their silly games trying to tie me down. But I’m free as a bird, doing what makes life life: kicking extreme-sport-ass!

I base jump, snowboard, bungee jump. I do anything for the rush.

Then, Ingela blows into town for college—a cool Swedish blast of trouble. Foulmouthed and runway-gorgeous, the girl seeps in like poison and melts the freaking brain.

To Ingela I am what chicks were to me: pastime, leisure, entertainment, pleasure. She’s killing me, and I’m digging it. There’s a new rush in town! Yeah, I hunt down my highs, and now the chase is on. I’ll catch her soon enough, just,what’s the deal with her ex?

BO
With Ingela, sex is a dance. A slow tango where skin flows over skin. It is slick readiness, a quiet welcome. It’s smooth, warm, right, and all wrong.

On and off. On and off. Again, she’s wrecked with grief. It’s a reminder of how I destroy her, how crushed relationships shouldn’t be revived.

We’ve done this for years, now, but clearly we’re in for more.

BO

Sex is a dance with her. A slow tango where skin flows over skin. It is slick readiness, a quiet welcome. It’s smooth, warm, right, and all wrong.
There’s no move she makes I don’t preempt. When it’s new, I follow. When I’m different, she forms to me. She was the ground I walked on. The air I worshipped. The first years together she was my everything.
With Ingela, sex is love. It is guilt over not giving her what she’s worthy of.
This girl. She deserves so much. And I?
I don’t have it all.
The way she looks at me. It’s knives sharpened and twisting in my gut because the extent of her love is beyond my capacity. I tell her again, for the seventh time in five years, what the answer always must be:
“Ingela, I can’t. You are the best person I know. You deserve someone with the chops to love you hard and forever. I’m not that man.”
Again, I’ve reduced her to this; her body, the one I just took to the skies in ecstasy, wracks with grief. This is why tonight is the last time we break up. I hate myself. I have to accept that I can’t make her happy.
It’s time I quit chickening out, quit running back to her over a bleak fling and whenever I need solace. To me, she’s comfort and familiarity. I’ll never stop loving Inga.
But to her, I’m still everything.

AUTHOR BIO:

Originally from Norway, I moved to the United States twelve years ago. I hold a Master’s degree in languages and taught Spanish at college level before settling in at the Savannah College of Art and Design as an adviser.

I write New Adult fiction, sometimes with a paranormal twist—like in “Shattering Halos,” published by The Wild Rose Press in February 24th 2014 and in “Stargazer,” released November 2014. The first book I’ve self-published was the New Adult Contemporary novel “Pandora Wild Child,” which made me a proud indie author in October 28th 2014.

I specialize in impulsive heroines, bad-boys, and good-boys running amok. Then, there’s the intense love, physical and emotional attraction beyond reason—sensory overload for the reader as well as for the characters. Like in real life, I hope you’re unable to predict what comes next in my stories.

Yes, so I write what I love to read, and depending on the reader, you’ll find my books to be a fast-paced emotional rollercoaster—or disturbing because the struggles of love aren’t your thing. Here’s to hoping you have the same reading vice as me!

Dragon Kisses

by Michele Zurlo

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Dragon Kisses #1 (Cassie and Niall)
Waking up in a strange barn was just the tip of the iceberg. Cassie and Niall find themselves transported to another world, one full of dragon shifters who want to possess them. Cassie is claimed by Illion, an electric blue dragon who shifts into five hulking men, and Niall is claimed by Wynn, a lime green dragon who shifts into two men and two women.
The Zmaj feed from the sexual energy of humans, and finding a cache of five in an abandoned barn is a momentous occasion. Convincing them to stay and protecting them from the Inamanida, their sworn enemy, is another task altogether. And falling in love? Zmaj don’t do that.
When Cassie runs away, Illion is forced to confront his prejudices and his brethren in order to save her from a fate worse than death.
Warnings: MMMFF, MMFMMM, light bondage, dominant dragon shifters
Dragon Kisses #2 (Arabella and Jonathan)
Waking with no memory, Arabella finds herself courted by three men claiming to be her mates. Dragon shifters Tobin, Gerrit, and Blakely woo her with sweet words and deeds, convincing her that she’s always lived this fairy tale existence. Life is perfect until the Inamanida King decides the experiment has gone on long enough—and Tobin is ordered to turn Arabella over to be tortured and used by the entire clan.
Meanwhile Jonathan is working to help settle the humans in Zmaj’s outer city. As the son of a prominent human leader, finds himself thrust into a leadership role and having to liaise with creatures he was raised to fear. Soon he falls for Laurel, a beautiful woman recently arrived from Earth, but as secrets emerge, he faces a stark truth that could cost him everything.
Tobin and Jonathan must risk everything and deal with consequences that could cost them the fragile relationships they’ve built with the women they love.
Warnings: MFMM, MF
Dragon Kisses #3 (Laurel, Niall, Jonathan)
In the months following Jonathan’s transformation, Laurel struggles to come to terms with her feelings for him and the horrific memories of time spent as a dragon’s slave. Jonathan struggles to be patient, but Laurel’s fear is breaking his heart. Niall and Cassie open a popular bakery and revel in the bliss of love and their new lives. Arabella pines for Tobin’s aspects to be reunited, and Nora discovers the secret of creating Zmaj offspring.
Meanwhile all Zmaj braces for the Inamanida attack that Tobin warned them about. When it finally comes, the Zmaj find themselves vastly outnumbered by enemy forces. In the violence that follows, everything changes.
Excerpt:
Dragon Kisses #3 (Laurel, Niall, Jonathan)
Giving her a half smile, I tried to move our conversation forward. “Can I get one of those baguettes?” I pulled a skirt from my bag. Evelyn and I were in business together, sort of. She made beautiful and functional clothing, and I modeled it so that people would want it for themselves. When I was little, my dreams hadn’t included becoming a fashion model, but that’s what I was. Without electricity or anything approaching technology, my Computer Engineering degree wasn’t going to do crap for me.
Cassie eyed the long skirt. I’d tie-dyed it red myself from crushed beetle shells. Those things were truly everywhere, even in a parallel dimension. They probably wandered through wormholes regularly.
“If you ask nicely.”
My head jerked around to the source of the voice before my brain processed the speaker. Turning, I found myself face-to-face with Cosmo. His jet black hair fell to his shoulders, curling slightly on the ends, and his black eyes regarded me intently. He had a strong jaw and sharp nose that worked to make him more imposing, yet it didn’t detract from his attractiveness.
He didn’t smile as he stood with his arms crossed and his weight leaning mostly on his left side. Our eyes met, and I quickly looked away. Yeah, I was a chicken. I wasn’t going to give sparks a chance to jump between us because I knew I couldn’t handle what he offered. I sidled a glance at Niall, but I turned my attention to Cassie and gave her the skirt. “Next time.”
She opened her mouth to say something, but Niall snaked his hand around her upper arm and jerked her to his side, hissing something for her ears only.
While Cosmo stared at me, Finley came into the store. He grinned when he saw me. “Laurel, you’ve been avoiding me.”
It was true. Though I was friends and business partners with his mother—Evelyn considered them all her son—I made sure my visits to her didn’t overlap with Jonathan’s. To my knowledge, Jonathan had been avoiding me as well. I’m sure if he wanted to see me, Evelyn would have made it happen by now. She wasn’t our matriarch for no reason.
I managed a small smile. “How’ve you been?”
His smile slipped a little. “I miss you. I thought we were going to be friends.”
I really didn’t know Cosmo or Finley, but they wouldn’t see it that way. “I told Jonathan we could continue to be friends, but he hasn’t been around.”
“It’s particularly hard for him to see you. If you reject Cosmo or me, you’re rejecting aspects of him, not the whole of me. Him. Us.”
Laughing at his pronoun slipup wasn’t something I could bring myself to do. Even he couldn’t decide if they were separate people or not.
He touched my hair lightly, bringing my attention back to him. “There’s still hope. That’s my point.”
There was no hope. “I don’t even know you.”
Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian I Dig Good Books.
Dragons with a difference are always a good bet for me, and this one did not disappoint!
The Zmaj dragons shift into, not a single person, but Aspects, each with a different part of the whole dragon. They feed of human sexual energy.
Finding a group of five humans in the barn was a godsend, but not all the humans are willing to submit.
Good solid world building, with some questions left unanswered (but in a good way!) great story line, twists and turns. All in all a great, but short, far too short read! Its only just shy of 100 pages, a little over an hour reading time for me. An excellent hangover cure, though!
Now, it says in the blurb, MMMFF and MMFMMM so I was expecting a sexy book, with some story coming through here and there. I did, I don't know why, but I did and I was very pleasantly surprised! Yes, there si a lot of sex in the book for such a short book, but its all in proportion to the book. And you get two storylines, that of Cassie and her blue dragon, and Niall and his green one. Cassie's dragon shifts into 5 men, and Niall's, into 2 men and 2 women.
There is also some history and some long standing war, and some humans who don't wanna be with the dragons.
Lots going on for it, but it only gets four stars because...wait for it....first person, multiple person POV, that of Cassie and Niall. Each change occurs as the chapter changes, and is clearly headed, but still. I know, I'm just picky!
I should like to read a longer book by this author, just to see what Michele Zurlo can do with more pages to play with. I would also love to read any more books in this series, there is something going on with Jonathon, that could change the dragons outlook on life, entirely!
4 stars.
Pet Peeves of the Publishing Industry
Pet peeves come in so many varieties—mine as a writer, mine as an indie publisher, other writer’s peeves—that it’s hard to pin them down. The publishing world is often harsh and impersonal. It’s first and foremost a business. However it’s made up of people—passionate people who love what they do no matter how frustrating it can be. And so here are some of my pet peeves with the publishing industry.
1.      There’s no magic formula for success. You can pour your heart and soul into your novel, put out the best product possible, and there is no path that guarantees people will give it a chance. It’s mostly about luck.
2.      Introverts flock to the publishing industry. We have so much good material hiding inside us, but we’re too shy to share it with the people around us. So we channel it into our writing. Our creativity and wonderfulness comes out in the form of the written word. The down side to that is readers love to interact with authors who are bursting with personality—those who are not afraid to share every bit of their full lives—and that’s not me. I’m a private person who works, chauffeurs my kids to sports, and writes. When I’m interesting and funny, I’m either hanging with my friends or writing.
3.      People frequently aren’t honest with you. I have at least four books out that I wish I’d never published, especially in their current form. Friends and family who read/skim your work tell you it’s awesome. Even publishers, in their quest for the almighty dollar, will accept work that shouldn’t see the light of day and throw it out there. You need someone who will be honest with you, someone who will tell you when to bury that story in your memory and start fresh. When you find that special person, whether they’re a reader/fan, fellow writer, or friend, kiss up to them so they’ll be your beta reader. Good beta readers can make all the difference in the world.
At the end of the day, write because you love it. Write stories you love and create characters you love. In writing Dragon Kisses, I started with an idea I found intriguing. I wanted to write a shifter romance, but I didn’t want to follow the “rules” of shifters that other people had written. Therefore I created my own rules and came up with a dragon who shifts into multiple aspects of one being. Each human form embodies one aspect of the dragon’s personality. One might be funny, another serious, and the third skeptical. (All of them are sexy; it’s a romance novel, after all.) Once I figured that out, I developed the Zmaj homeworld and set my stories there. Dragon Kisses 1 introduces us to the world and two of the humans who suddenly find themselves there. Dragon Kisses 2 takes us further into the world as we deal with the repercussions of an attack and how it forces the Zmaj to change the way they associate with the human refugees stranded on their world. We also get to find out what happens when a human with a Zmaj (dragon) father reaches maturity and transforms into a dragon, and we get a peek behind enemy lines. Dragon Kisses 3 brings together several of these storylines and explodes in a stunning and devastating (for some) conclusion.
I hope you love reading it as much as I loved writing it!
I’m not half as interesting as my characters. My childhood dreams tended to stretch no further than the next book in my to-be-read pile, and I aspired to be a librarian so I could read all day. BLOG TOUR, REVIEW & #GIVEAWAY - The Eyes of Bast by Lisabet Sarai
Blurb for The Eyes of Bast
Trust your heart. Follow your dreams.
Shaina Williams’ grandmother bequeathed her that wisdom, along with an old pendant from the Islands, carved from an ocelot’s tooth. When instinct tells Shaina to visit the feral cat trap she’s set in Central Park, she listens to that inner voice. She discovers she’s caged a magnificent black tom, but the cat inexplicably vanishes after she tends to his wounds. Seeking the errant feline, Shaina encounters instead a handsome stranger whose slightest touch sets her body on fire. As the day dawns after a night of ferocious passion, her mysterious lover is forced back into his true shape—the tomcat she rescued.
Born a cat, Tom was transformed into an unwilling shape shifter by a sorceress who craved a human plaything to satisfy her perverse lusts. Centuries old and irresistibly powerful, Delphine Montserrat will stop at nothing to find her runaway familiar. Shaina vows to do whatever is necessary to defeat the vicious but seductive witch and save the man she believes is her soul mate—even though it might mean losing him forever.
Publisher's Note: This book was previously published elsewhere. It has been revised and re-edited for release with Totally Bound.
Excerpt from The Eyes of Bast:
His rising erection prodded my thigh. He cradled my breast in one palm and stroked his thumb across my nipple. With a sigh of feigned exasperation, I forced myself to push him away.
We dont have time for more sex. The sun will have set in a couple of hours. The spell book said we had to do this on Midsummers Day.
I rummaged in my pack for the linen bag of herbs and the lead balls. According to the grimoire, the Eyes would float to the surface if not weighted.
Tom crouched on his haunches.Are you sure you want to do this, Shaina?
I tugged at the ring on my forefinger. It resisted my attempts.I dont want to become Delphine Montserrat. I dont want to live forevernot without you.
But the jewels in the collarmy body absorbed themthat might extend my life as well.
Eternity, with Tom as my lover? Id be lying if I said I wasnt tempted. I shook my head, determined to follow through with our plans.
The witchs notes say the collar gems were weak copies controlled by the primary Eyes. They are infused with some magic, but only slightly affect the lifespan of the wearer. And once the originals are gone, the copies lose their power.
And then what? I didnt voice my fears. Given that the collar saved him, will Tom die? Will he revert to his feline state? It didnt matter. I had to ditch the Eyes. I had enough trouble trying to understand and control the powers Id apparently inherited from my grandmother.
I have to trust my intuitions, Tom. They tell me that no good can come from wearing the cursed Eyes of Bast.
My lover nodded solemnly.I trust you.His arms were around me again and this time, I didnt resist.Whatever happens, I love you.
Tears choked me. I couldnt answer. Then he brought his mouth to mine. Neither of us spoke for a long time.
Tom was the one who broke this kiss.Do it, Shaina. Before one of us backs down.
I nodded then turned my full attention to the rings decorating my fingers. They sparkled like liquid fire in the afternoon lightemerald, ruby, topaz, amethyst, sapphire, precious and unutterably lovely. How could I give them up?
No. Theyre muddling my will. I worked the emerald up to the first joint of my first finger. It stuck, stubbornly refusing to leave my flesh.
My pendant warmed against my bare skin. I claimed its power.Release, I command you.The ring slid off. A strange, wrenching sensation tore through me, as though a small earthquake had shaken my chest. I cradled the silver artifact in my left palm. So prettyWhat a shame
Independent Reviewer for Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books!
*Disclaimer* I received a copy of this book from Totally Bound in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Shaina helped capture feral cats to take to the local shelter she helped at to get their shots and get spayed or neutered as her second “job”. Little did she know that the last cat she captured would end up capturing her mind, body, and soul.  Tom was a beautiful black cat that had been cursed. Will Shaina’s love for him be enough to break his curse or does she possess an inner power that can break the curse?
This book definitely had the potential to have a great story line written for it. The story itself seemed to be rushed and hurried as well as an afterthought to the sex scenes. The story line that was there was enough to grab your attention and want to keep reading. I think that if the author would have continued with the story line, expanded on a few things, the story would have been excellent and could have obtained a 5 star rating.
I enjoyed the detail that the author did write about the story line for Shaina and Tom. The magic part of the story line lacked in detail but the information that was there was interesting. During the parts of the story in which the story line flowed well and the detail was present it grasped my attention and kept me reading. During the story,  I wasn’t sure how they were going to end up and how the curse would be broken, if it was possible and leading to me sitting on the edge of my seat. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen quite enough and as I mentioned before, it was rushed. The author had a great idea for the story line though and I loved the idea of it.
The Price of Power - by Lisabet Sarai
I think it's safe to say that all paranormal stories revolve around at least one character with extra-human powers. Vampires are immortal and preternaturally strong. Shape shifters exhibit the powers of their beast sides: fleetness, ferocity, heightened perception. Psychics can read thoughts, mentally control inanimate objects, or see the future. Fairies, witches, demons and similar fey folk have access to a wide variety of magical capabilities. Even ghosts have the power to appear and disappear and to walk through walls.
Encountering individuals who can defy everyday laws and logic is one of the joys of reading paranormal romance.  We all like to imagine what it might be like to fly, crush our enemies to a pulp, or psychically meld with our lovers.  One of the fascinating things about power, though, is that it almost always has its price. In return for their powers, the characters lose something. Vampires pay in guilt for their blood-sucking ways, and often in loneliness. Werewolves live at the mercy of the moon. Psychics suffer social isolation; it's difficult to have a normal relationship when you know what everyone else is thinking.
The dark side of power, the payment it exacts from the one who wields it, often plays a central role in paranormal plots. Sometimes it is the primary source of conflict, particularly when it divides the powerful character from his or her beloved.
I've been fascinated by the dual nature of power ever since I started writing paranormal romance.  For instance, in my M/M paranormal Necessary Madness, Kyle can see the future, but his terrible visions drive him to the edge of sanity. He is on the street, trying to drink himself into a stupor in order to escape from his power, when Sergeant Rob Murphy rescues him.
In my vampire ménage Fire in the Blood, the vampire hero Etienne has sworn to abstain from drinking human blood. His power makes him irresistible to humans, however. He inspires lust in both men and women, without any active intent on his part. And when the heroine offers him her body and her blood, he is not strong enough to refuse, though he suffers horrible guilt later.
My latest paranormal romance, The Eyes of Bast, clearly illustrates the price one pays for wielding magic. My heroine Shaina Williams rescues a feral cat, only to discover he’s a shape shifter cursed by an evil sorceress. To defeat this witch and free her beloved, Shaina must claim her own hereditary powers. In the process, she nearly loses her humanity, tempted by the same immortality that corrupted her cruel adversary. Only with Tom’s help does she manage to refuse the tainted promise of eternal life.
In the romance world, one can always expect a happy ending. There may be darkness, though, along the twisted road to that bright conclusion. Personally I prefer romances which recognize that power has its price. Otherwise, it's just a fairy tale, sunny and superficial.
