After a car accident causes Daisy Carmichael to see the future, she is plagued by not only the things she sees but the deadly secrets of the young man who saved her life.
“Please.” I said. “Don’t stop. I remember. When you kiss me, I remember.”
He brought his lips back to mine and a flash of color filled my vision.
I was at the beach, feeling the heat from the sun and seeing the blue horizon in front of me. My yellow hair ruffled around my face and a boy with hazel eyes stood before me with a perfect smile on his face. I felt the heat of his skin when I reached to touch his face.
The vision faded and was replaced with a park bench in a dark evening; the sun barely peeking over the mountains. We were laughing, but there was no sound. Flashes of smiles and exchanges of looks rapidly played in my memory. There were so many empty hours that were filled with the one thing I should have never been able to forget.
Another memory, a laugh, a smile and finally, a kiss; a kiss in the afternoon standing in the tall grass of our field.
When he finally pulled away I had soft tears rolling down my face, but I was unable to keep from smiling.
“Did you see?” he asked.
I nodded. “More than that,” I said. “I remember. The visions…I know I have lived those moments before. They felt perfectly familiar and fitting. I know those memories are mine. I remember.”
3 out of 5 (good)
In Gray starts off about a young girl who is in a car accident. A boy helps to keep her alive until help arrives, but no one remembers him. Although the majority of Daisy's injuries heal with no problem, she is left seeing the world in shades of grey. The only time she sees colour is when she dreams, and those dreams have a tendency to come true.
This is a good story about The Order, and Sect 1 who saves people, and Sect 2, who, erm, dispatches people! Not only do we have Lucas - the boy who saves Daisy in the beginning - but we have his brother, Kristoff, his father, Moe, Zane, Mr White, and many more characters who all play their role in this book. Daisy is definitely the wild card in all of this as the normal rules don't seem to apply to her.
Although this is a very good story, it made my head spin a bit too much with Daisy, Lucas, and The Order. "Forget me, we can't be together; I love you, we'll be together forever." Throw in a brother who wants more, or is he just being competitive, and it got a bit crazy for me.
On the whole, this was a good story with plenty of situations and characters to sink your teeth into.
