Twenty years ago, Paxton Marshall realized he liked boys, in particular his brother’s best friend, Brad. Pax now runs a successful art gallery, but he’s never found anyone who stirs his heart the way Brad did.

Brad Watson is back in town for his twentieth high school reunion. However, the celebration of long-ago days is the last thing on his mind. He’s there for one reason: to finally tell Pax how he feels.

Pax is shocked to learn Brad is not only gay but also interested in him. Dating a man in Ames Bridge isn’t as simple as it sound, though. In order to make a relationship work, both men will have to bolster their courage and alter their expectations.

*This book is an expansion of a previously published short story titled Open to the Past. Over 35,000 words have been added.*

A knock on the shop door drew Pax’s his attention; probably his assistant, Cindy. It wouldn’t be the first time she’d forgotten her key, and no one else would be dropping by this early. Microfiber duster in hand, he twirled his way past the worktables and unpainted pottery pieces.

He sang along with Madonna as he reached for the doorknob, and froze—Brad was grinning at him through the front window.

Heat rushed to Pax’s face. For a moment he contemplated racing over to turn the music off, then walking calmly back to the door as if the last few seconds had never happened. Could he convince Brad his earlier appearance was a hallucination?

Brad placed his hand against the window and peered in. “Is this a bad time? I know I’m really early.”

“Um…no. Just a sec.”

He would open the damn door, talk to Brad, and generally behave like a respectable adult. That’s what would happen.

With a deep breath, he turned the knob and stared, openmouthed, unable to form a single word. Was Brad even more gorgeous than he’d been two years ago? At eighteen he’d been the hottest boy in school, but now with his dirty-blond hair showing hints of gray, he was even better. His T-shirt stretched taut over his biceps, and his jeans fit like they were tailor-made for his muscular thighs. But the thing that made Brad even more desirable now was how relaxed and happy he seemed. In high school he’d always been restless, as though he were uncomfortable in his gorgeous body, despite having it made as far as anyone else could tell. Pax wondered what had changed.

Pax looked up at Brad and realized he’d been caught giving him a blatant once-over while he stood in the doorway. “Um… Where are my manners?” Fled in the face of his insanity? “Come in. That is, if you’d like to.”

“I would.” He smiled, showing off the dimple in his left cheek.

Pax wanted to run his tongue across it. Instead, he made a dramatic show of bowing and sweeping his hand toward the interior. “Enter, sir.”

Brad laughed and stepped inside. Pax shut the door behind him and locked it, hoping Cindy would be late so he’d have time to show Brad the gallery without anyone else there.

“Is it ’80s day?” Brad asked.

Pax needed to accept that he would be blushing the whole time Brad was there. “No, I was just cleaning, and this music motivates me.”

“Let me know if I’m keeping you from something. I woke up early, and I was anxious to see you.”

Anxious to see him? Him? Pax’s knees threatened to give. Was it possible…? No. Just because Pax had spent far too many hours fantasizing about Brad saying he was gay or bi, that didn’t mean it was going to happen.

5 out of 5 (exceptional)

The Past comes Home is the second book in the Ames Bridge series, and we reunite with Pax, who we met in the first book when he supported Beck and Cal. In this book, we start off when he is a teenager. He is watching his older brother and his brother's best friend, and realises that what ticks his boxes is NOT the female anatomy. The years pass, and tragedy strikes Pax's family, but his feelings towards his brother's best friend remain the same. So when Brad comes back to town for a school reunion, Pax has to try and keep it cool being as Brad is straight... except that he isn't and he has had the same feelings for Pax and for pretty much the same amount of time.

With the same wonderful cast of characters, and yep, the not-so-wonderful are still there too, it was a pleasure to come back to this series. With a different set of circumstances and dilemmas, Pax and Brad's story is different from Beck and Cal, and I'm happy to announce that they show up in this one too.

One of the things that Silvia Violet does so well is to keep the tension and attraction going between her main males. The circumstances might not be right, but the attraction simmers. That means that when they DO get together, that attraction explodes into some of the steamiest, sensual, and sexy, reads I have had the pleasure of reading.

I was a fan of Silvia Violet's after reading Professional Distance (Thorne & Dash #1), and the Ames Bridge series has just compounded my love of her writing style. As expected, there were no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow. I read this book in a single sitting - the world (and my children) having to wait until I had reached the end of Pax and Brad's story. An excellent addition to the series, and highly recommended by me.

5 out of 5 (exceptional)

Down on the Farm is the first book in the Ames Bridge series, and we meet Beck, who has returned to the town he grew up in to sort out his grandma's home, and get some respite from the stress that he has been under recently. The only trouble is his grandma's house is right next door to the guy that Beck had a crush on when he was younger, but who bullied Beck whenever he saw him.

This story got me from the start. Beck and Cal have an instant spark between them that everyone else can see. Cal is worried, with reason, about how being 'out' and dating will affect his farm. He already struggles because of his sexuality, and thinks dating will just make it even harder. Beck has to learn that Cal has changed from his younger days, and perhaps, there is a chance for them both.

Down on the Farm is full of amazing characters, some huggable, some punchable. Either way, they are never bland, and it does give an insight into just how hard it might be. There is plenty of story, with steamy bits too (gotta say, I loved the barn scene! phew!!) It isn't all about the sex though, but about how these two men have to think about what they want and if they are brave enough to reach out for it.

With no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading flow, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The pacing was smooth, with enough angst to make it tense in places. Highly recommended by me.

Oh, and one other thing - can I just say how much I loved Elsie and Irene! A couple of stars right there. And I certainly hope they make an appearance in future books.

#PROMOTIONAL_POST & #GIVEAWAY - Emerald's Ring (Sedona Series #2) by Jaylee Austin

Emerald's Ring
Sedona Series #2
by Jaylee Austin
Release Date: October 9, 2017

Keywords: Fantasy, Romance, Time Travel,  Sidhe, Novel, Series

Harmonia Shae, a time traveler, faces a revengeful fallen sidhe queen set on enslaving humankind. A Sihir magician traps Harmonia’s freewill inside a talisman forcing her to submit to three summonses.

On the brink of death, she finds an unwanted champion in Tristan Avery. Upon awakening, she is in his house. Frightened, she scrambles to escape his overbearing need to protect her. Time is short, she must find the ambassador of the gates and return to her cousin’s house to formulate a plan of action to undo the cataclysmic effects she is compelled to inflict on an unsuspecting city once she completes the queen’s commands.

The wild cowboy sidhe, Tristan Avery finds the dark haired beauty unconscious and poisoned with copper. Determined, to find out why she is here, he follows her every move. When a calamitous earthquake hits Sedona, he is sure she is connected to the mystifying vibrational energy storming through the ley lines of magick. As minder of the Kingdom of Sidhe, he becomes entangled in a battle to safeguard Sedona and defend the women he’s vowed to protect.

Harmonia and Tristan can’t stop the tempestuous hot relationship developing between them as they each hide their own secrets. Will these two overcome the obstacles and find love?

“What do you want with me?” Harmonia asked, her heartbeat racing, nearly exploding with the effects of the drug.

Another jolt of excruciating pain surged through her brain. Her arms remained immobile, unable to move against the repressing force of the woman’s energy.

A fire djinn, of the Infrit tribe, came through the tunnel to her left. Harmonia recognized the sister of her father’s enemy, Vera.

“You recognize me,” she said, circling around Harmonia with a satisfied grin.

In the recess of the cave, Harmonia sensed a Sumerian Sahir. A sour taste of panic formed in her mouth. Her eyes darted around the room searching for the magician. As a child she had learned to avoid the Sahir, known for their deceit and evil deeds.

Vera materialized a dark magick stone of solomon, giving the flaming talisman to the sidhe woman. The stone crackled with electrical energy before turning an ashy black. “It’s time to initiate the plan,” Vera declared.

Harmonia trembled, realizing they meant to bind her to the talisman. Fingering the pendant around her neck, she concentrated on Oaf and her grandfather. Releasing the water assimilation shield protecting her body, she attempted to slip through the quantum particles of the time ribbon and into safety. For a split second, she thought she might succeed. The wind encircled the vibrating molecules of her body, forcing her to materialize and retreat
against the wall. The sidhe’s wind magick left Harmonia gasping for breath. Without her shield, she was vulnerable to the wind’s power.

The sidhe stroked Harmonia’s dark hair. “Silky and beautiful. So perfect,” she said, pulling a few strands from her scalp.

Harmonia heaved a heavy breath and cleared her mind of the shock. She pushed against the wind, determined to gain an upper hand before it was too late. The elements of wind thwarted and overpowered her water magick. Her body weakened. Unable to fight against the poison racing through her veins, she collapsed breathlessly.

“If I’m to be your servant, who is my master?” Harmonia asked, speaking through her teeth with forced restraint.

The female’s silver lips curved into a wicked grin. “Soon, you and all in the kingdom will remember the days of the unseelie reign.”

“Your clan.” With a resurgence of strength, Harmonia pulled the water particles from the wind and deflated its strength, giving her enough time to open the time ribbon.

“Stop her,” Vera hissed to the sahir. He shot an arrow into the ripple of energy causing her body to crumble to the ground, preventing her escape.

The sahir pulled his arrow from her shoulder. “Try it again and the next arrow will puncture your heart.”

Determined to keep her dignity, she stood. “How can I be of service to one so experienced in the world of sidhe magick as you? Your skills far superior to my own.”

“Aw, you desire a game of wits. The binding requires you have the opportunity.”

BLOG TOUR, EXCERPT & #GIVEAWAY - Breakaway (Pilots Hockey #5) by Sophia Henry

Book details:

by Sophia Henry
Published by: Random House: Flirt
Publication date: September 5th 2017
Genres: New Adult, Romance, Sports

In a standalone hockey romance that tugs at readers’ heartstrings, a broken ex-pro learns to live and love again—all thanks to the complicated, wonderful nurse who gives him a second chance.

Brianna Collins needs to break away from her overbearing family. Her parents expect her to “fix” her brother after a series of concussions derailed his hockey career. Unfortunately, no doctor will give him clearance to play, and she’s finished with being the person they rely on to perform a miracle that will never happen. For Bree, a six-month nursing assignment at a hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina, is the perfect escape.

Luke Daniels, former forward for the NHL’s Charlotte Aviators, has spent close to a year rehabbing a career-threatening injury—and distracting himself however he can. Worlds collide when Luke realizes that the girl from his latest one-night-stand happens to be the new nurse at the hospital where he volunteers in the pediatric unit. What’s more, Bree’s the only person who makes him excited about life again.

Despite her initial reservations, Luke can’t help pursuing sweet, beautiful Bree. Then he realizes it was her brother whose career he ended with an accidental hit, and he falls back on the thing that’s always helped suppress his demons: alcohol. But if Luke doesn’t kick his old habits, he just may lose the one thing he loves more than hockey.

I want to fuck this girl so badly I can almost taste her on my tongue already. But her eyes keep rolling into the back of her head, and I know she’s way too drunk for me to keep going.
Even if she says yes, I need to stop. I’m smart enough to know that you don’t have sex with a drunk girl. No matter what. I take a deep breath and try to escape to a place of Zen, hoping my dick will follow suit and calm the fuck down.
That’s when Bree reaches between our bodies and tugs at my jeans, popping the button open. She thrusts her hand into the front of my pants and takes hold of my cock. I guess I made it pretty easy for her, since I’m always commando.
“Bree.” Her name catches in my throat because her grip feels so fucking good. I try to back up, but she doesn’t relent, sliding her hand over my dick. I swallow hard and move my hand to her hip. I need to regain control of the situation before we do something she regrets in the morning, but I can’t remember the last time I wanted to stop a situation like this. Probably never.
“We’re gonna have to hold off on this part.” Our faces are so close our breath mingles. The smell of beer and vanilla wafts from her. Reminding me again that we’ve both had too much to drink.
“Really?” Her question comes out as a pant. She thinks she’s being tricky when she takes hold of my hand on her hip and slides it back between her fucking legs. I can’t help it when my dick swells in her grasp. Her lips twist into a sexy smile of satisfaction and I want to toss being a good guy out the window and throw her legs over my shoulders.
“This”—I remove my hand again and hold it up—“is staying right here.” I place it back on her hip and give it a squeeze. Her chest heaves with a melodramatic sigh, pushing the tight T-shirt covering her tits toward my face. “Don’t be a drama queen,” I tease her.
“I want you inside me, Luke. I’m not just saying that because I’m drunk. I wanted to fuck you the second I saw you at Valhalla.” Bree squeezes my cock.
“Jesus,” I hiss, squeezing my eyes shut. Her grip feels amazing, though I’ve pressed my pelvis against her so that she doesn’t have room to jerk me off. “I want to be with you, too, Bree. So fucking badly. You don’t know how much it hurts, like, physically hurts, right now.”
“I bet I do,” she mumbles.
I smile and move my hand to her head, sliding it through her hair. “But we’ve both had too much to drink. If we try to do this now, you’re never gonna be able to come and it’ll give me a complex even though I know it’s because of the alcohol, not my magic stick.”
“Did you really just call your penis a magic stick?” She asks through a laugh.
I put my finger on her lips. “You are smart and fun and fucking gorgeous. But I’m not the guy that fucks drunk girls. The last thing I want is for you to wake up with regrets.”
She could write a fucking contract in lipstick on my bathroom mirror right now and I still wouldn’t fuck her. Not just because I’m not that kind of guy, but also because the last thing I need is a lawsuit. I’m not saying she’s a bad person, but I don’t know this girl. There are a ton of slimy dudes out there, but there are also some girls that just want to get something from a professional athlete. I honestly don’t get that vibe from Bree, but I have to be smart—for both of us.
She leans in and presses a hand against my chest, the one that doesn’t have a warm firm grip on my dick. “I’m not that drunk,” she sings softly. Her voice is a raspy whisper, and sexy as fuck.
“That’s what every drunk person says before they make a bad decision.”
“If you think my hand feels good, just imagine what my warm, wet mouth feels like.”
Her face hovers over mine, so close that our lips touch when she speaks. She licks my bottom lip before taking it in her mouth. When she tries to move her hand, I press against her harder, restricting her.
“I don’t think sucking your cock would be a bad decision, do you?” she asks.
Fucking hell! Her dirty mouth is such a turn-on I want to ball up my self-control and chuck that shit off the balcony. Bree takes her hand off my dick and grabs my hip to keep me from falling off the couch.
“You’re fucking killing me.” I say, readjusting myself and snuggling into her. Bree laughs and relaxes in my arms. “We can fuck in the morning, when you’ll remember it.” I trace the curve of her body from the side of her rib cage and over her hip.
“So you’re saying it’ll be memorable?” Her voice is soft, drifting into a sexy, sleepy whisper.
“Fireworks and dancing pandas, baby,” I tease, though I have no clue where the dancing pandas came from. I must’ve had more to drink than I realize. “Let’s move this to my bed.”
Instead of answering, she burrows into my chest. I inhale the soothing botanical scent of her hair and feel like I’m in at a high-end spa. Within minutes, Bree’s breathing slows to an even, gentle rhythm and I know she’s passed out.
Though I love the feel of her warm body flush against me, I can’t sleep on Big Red all night. We’d be on the floor with one roll. I gently maneuver Bree off me so I can slide off the couch. Then I lift her up and carry her to my bed.
I’m too tired to think about changing her into makeshift pajamas from my wardrobe. I don’t do anything except shimmy her jeans to the floor. But I feel like a creep leaving her pant-less. What if she wakes up wondering what the fuck she’s doing here and why her clothes are off?
I cross the room and open the top drawer of my dresser, grabbing a pair of green plaid boxers I’ve never worn. Taking great care not to wake her, I slide them up her legs and let them rest loosely on her hips. The sexy sight of Bree’s sleek, tan legs and lacy, pink panties makes my dick swell. I can honestly say that this is the first time I’ve ever gotten excited putting clothes on a woman.
I hightail it to the bathroom to grab a quick, cold shower and relieve my suffering cock. Once I’m finished, I set out an extra toothbrush I found stashed in my drawer. It’s brand-new in the package. I keep it that way in case Bree’s a germophobe or something.
What the fuck do I care if she’s a germophobe? It’s only one night. Odd. I’ve never thought of this shit before with other girls. Then again, it’s been a while since I’ve had anyone over. Been in a bit of a funk since my surgery, as if the loss of my career affected not only my head, but also my libido. But Bree had my dick thicker than Thor’s hammer since the second I saw her at Valhalla.
I crawl into bed and curl against Bree’s side, spooning into her curves. The numbers on the clock glow behind her head, informing me that it’s 10:07 p.m., which is the latest I’ve ever lasted on the night of this pub crawl. It’s one of those crazy, all-day events that starts early and usually ends early. Good thing the boys have a game tomorrow or we’d probably still be tipping back shots of vodka. Those Russians toast to every motherfucking thing.
Her hair falls across my pillow in soft waves, as if she lets it air-dry after washing it. It’s a welcome change from the crunch or grease of women’s hair products. Before I close my eyes, I study Bree’s face, scanning every inch of her smooth, bare skin before settling my gaze on her pink lips, which are slightly parted. For a slight second I imagine her mouth around my dick, as she’d suggested earlier.
I shake my head and smooth a hand through my hair. Should’ve taken her up on that offer before she passed out.
Settling in next to Bree fills me with an odd sense of peace. It’s been too long since I’ve curled up with a woman in my own bed. I don’t invite many girls to my condo. It’s my sanctuary, the only place I can completely relax and forget the problems of life.
I listen to every breath she takes, pretending the stress in my own life washes away every time she exhales. When I finally drift off, it’s with a sense of calm I haven’t felt in years.
